Life Story Work

Children in care often experience many different carers and social workers, this can cause important information about their lives to be lost or forgotten. Life story work provides children with information on their past, sometimes on events than can be difficult to understand, in an age appropriate manner.

Young children separated from their birth families may not remember or understand what has happened in their life. It is important to provide these children with a sense of their roots and help foster a sense of identity which will benefit them as they grow up. Possible future relationships with their birth family, or just understanding who they are, can be helped with Life Story Work.

A life story 'book' will contain information about important events, such as where they were born, significant people in their lives, and their care history.
